PARIS — Balenciaga will next week name Alexander Wang its new creative director, WWD has learned. (continue reading: WWD)

Rumors say that H & M’s next design collaboration is the French fashion house Givenchy. Nothing is confirmed yet, but according to several sources, so it leans against it will be those who cooperate next year. Is totally excited because Givenchy is one of my favorite brands, and if this is true, you know at least who will queue up! (image: ramispics)
Goodbye, Yves Saint Laurent. Hello, Saint Laurent Paris.

This fall, fashion house Yves Saint Laurent (YSL) will change its name to “Saint Laurent Paris,” according to Women’s Wear Daily. The French brand’s creative director, Hedi Slimane, confirmed to WWD that YSL will re-brand itself with the dramatic change. Saint Laurent will make its debut when the Spring 2012 collection hits stores.

The iconic YSL logo will not be thrown to the wayside, however. The brand will keep the emblem on its shoe soles, makeup cases and in advertising campaigns, reported Lucky magazine. The logo, designed by Ukrainian-French artist A.M. Cassandre in 1963, has been synonymous with the brand since it was first launched by designer Yves Henri Donat Mathieu-Saint-Laurent.

Fashionista was the first to report on the YSL name change, sharing the first whisperings of rumors regarding the brand dropping the “Yves.” Continue reading: ibtimes

Raf Simons at Dior!

The job at Dior has finally been filled!

On Wednesday, the Paris fashion house will announce that Raf Simons will officially be taking over as artistic director at Dior, replacing John Galliano - who was fired from Dior last year after he made anti-Semitic remarks in a Paris Cafe. Raf Simons first collection is planned to debut for July at the fall Haute Couture show. (continue read: here)

Celine Runway Canceled:

There will be no Celine runway show this season…Women’s Wear Daily reports that Phoebe Philo is pregnant with her third child and thus is planning on scaling back her upcoming presentation.

There will be a little extra breathing room during Paris Fashion Week in March: Celine, one of the hottest tickets, is skipping the runway this season. While Celine will keep its allotted March 4 time slot in the Paris Fashion Week schedule, the Fall 2012 goods will likely be shown to editors and buyers in the house’s showrooms, a more informal setting.

Which means editors will still get their fix, but those of us hanging back stateside probably won’t — until the looks hit the fashion mags come September… Read more at WWD.com.

Tumblr Black-Out:

what’s tumblr black-out?

The Tumblr Black-out is in protest against SOPA on January 18th, which is to ‘Stop Online Piracy Act’ and this bill is scheduled for a test vote in the Senate on Jan. 24th. If this bill is passed it gives the government new/full power to block Americans’ access websites that corporations don’t like. The bill lets corporations and the US government censor entire websites and cut sites off from advertising, payments and donations.

Tumblr as a website will not be shutting down on January 18th, as they have not been confirmed on the SOPA Strike page. Although there have been over 342 tumblr accounts that have been confirmed to shut down individually on this day, which you can check out on the Unfiltered List.

If this bill is passed American’s will not be allowed to:

  • Download movies, music, television shows, images, etc!
  • You will not be aloud to post any content that is not originally yours due to copyright infringement. Meaning that if you have not taken the image yourself, shot the video, or written even a quote yourself you cannot legally post it

Essentially this bill will change Tumblr, Twitter, Facebook, and other social media sites entirely… Check out more here: SOPA Breaks The Internet

How do I get my tumblr to black out tomorrow?

If you go on the site for the Web Goes on Strike you will see this bar, you just simply submit your url there:

Essentially you could put in any site you want

John Galliano & Zara :

Rumor has it that John Galliano is designing a capsule collection for Zara to be presented in the Spring Summer 2012 in the high street fashion brand’s store all over the world. I expect the collection to have his trademarks of reinveted delicate romanticism.

Raf Simons for Dior?

Seems like Marc Jacobs is out and Raf Simons is in. Sources close to Christian Dior tell WWD that the luxury house is close to signing the Belgian designer, but there are a few obstacles in the way, such as Simons’ recently extended contract with Jil Sander.

Simons has been with Jil Sander since 2005 and his contract was recently extended for an unknown duration, meaning Dior will most likely have to buy him out of it. Should that prove easily said and done, Simons still won’t be able to produce a ready-to-wear collection by March, let alone a couture collection by January. There might be an even bigger hurdle on the horizon, however, as Yves Saint Laurent reportedly has their eye on Simons as well. Continue reading: here
